Good news!
I think at this point it would be accurate to say that the website is in 1.0! There are plenty of little touch ups I’d love to do but the entire point of this project is to push myself to move, act and work decisively. Small touch ups and improvements will come but lets say right now if we are not quite at the right sound we certainly have the fury.
Let me talk a little about the site. One of the strongest features is the interactive widgets that are custom made. You can participate in the game aspect of the web-comic by rolling a dice, voting in polls and as a thanks-get immediate funny feedback and live results tracking. All of that plus I got some behind the curtain magic to make it easy for me to get the info I need to make the next comic.
All of this turned out much better than I expected, how I wanted it to work in my head is pretty much how it is working now. That said, I have a confession: I had some AI assistance in the creation of these widgets. Now, before you gasp please know that the images used in these are all my own work! No visual elements that appear on this site are generated by AI. Let me talk a bit about my skillset: I am something or a jack of all trades master of none. I know my way around some HTML and CSS to make visual stuff. I know how to make a pretty website in fact that is where my area of colligate study resides. I can draw funny animals.
I, however, do not know how to do higher level code to make something with as snappy interactivity as the widgets have and it is all thanks to Claude.Ai. I am convinced that the use of AI as a tool put the entire vision of Weasel Knight ahead by years. I have no clue when I would have been able to hire someone to make the widgets the way they are now but I am going to make a binding vow with you right now: If Weasel Knight hits big, I am going to give back by hiring a programmer and paying them generously to sit on their tuckas doing diddly.
I still have an itchy relationship with AI, if you check out the blog on my portfolio site I go on kind of a rant about AI. I think my words there still apply but maybe a positive exploration is required. I will write more there but lets say big companies replacing jobs with AI bad, folks using it to sort of spackle over skill gaps they wouldn’t be able to compensate for otherwise not so bad?
So now the work on the comic is underway. Page 1 is about 90%, Page 2 is at 50%.
It’s been a slow process but the idea is to run 2 pages, offer a choice then set a sort of Tue/Thurs release schedule if possible. Keeping up is going to break my limits so if you are reading: Please spread the word and spirit bomb us with some support!
