Glossary

Jargon at work? Not fun. Jargon at play? FUN.
Any good fantasy world will develop a certain language or bake certain context into words that do not exist outside of this world. If you’re at a wedding, The Ring is the brides wedding band. If you are at the Shire hanging with Frodo…The Ring is a mystical object imbued with powers that drives the entire story.

All this to say that this is the glossary is to keep some of that context easier to find and to highlight important terms to both the game aspect of this adventure as well as in world things that need a entry.

Advantage/Disadvantage

This is a mechanic from Dungeons and Dragons 5e. It’s a sort of shorthand to say a character based on their stats, the scenario or whatever they just did warrants the roll should be rolled with a modifier. This modifier is simple–both roll two d20s. Advantage means you take the higher roll of the two. Disadvantage means you take the lower roll of the two.

When such is called in our comic adventure, the humble staff will roll one dice, and a dice roll from submissions will be randomly picked.

Boon

A spring of good fortune be upon you, holder of a boon! Basically, a high value gift or favor given to a character. They are sometimes contextual, sometimes divine, sometimes they are even epic! The power or nature of said boon is likely commiserate to the deed that earned it. Answering a question correctly–eh it’s fine but not earth shattering. Complete Hercules 12 labors? Oh that’s a biggin!

Divergent

Relating to polls, if you see us on our social media pages calling on an important vote or pop onto this very website and you are greeted with a poll labeled “DIVERGENT”. Well. That is an important poll, all caps to show respect. It means that a (likely binary) choice is going down and will have real ramifications on the story going forward.

If you see the word being passed around, make sure you get your vote in!

Cooperative Storytelling

This term is the beating heart of all role playing games. It’s giving the readers, player, or whomever is experiencing the media agency in that media. It’s all the people at that nerdy table rolling dice and adding their own voice to the adventure unfolding before them.

When it comes to most role playing games, the world and what is happening is the construct of the author and/or game designer. The vessel by which one influences and interacts in this world is the character they made. Did you know these games let you customize a character then let you lose to play?

How does this work when it comes to Weasel Knight? After every comic is this panel of widgets with ways to control or influence the character, the world and various things happening in the story.
